Client Spotlight: The Vancouver Christmas Market Spreads Holiday Cheer and Raises $60,000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation

February 24th, 2022 / Meeting Design

After a one-year hiatus, the Vancouver Christmas Market returned to the Vancouver Convention Centre’s Jack Poole Plaza in 2021 and had one of its most successful seasons yet. The German-inspired Christmas market started in 2010 and quickly became a beloved holiday tradition. Known for its incredible selection of food and festive shops, the Vancouver Christmas Market introduced new features this past year to ensure event-goers can celebrate the holiday season with family and friends, safely.

Giving Back:

Giving back is what the holidays are all about. Thanks to a sponsorship with Interac, the Vancouver Christmas Market’s HolidayLife Carousel was free to ride with an optional donation to Make-a-Wish Foundation. The carousel took a total of 42,000 trips around and raised $60,000, enabling Make-a-Wish to grant six wishes to children living with a critical illness in B.C.

Putting Safety First:

To support the health and safety of visitors and staff, the team at the Vancouver Christmas Market went above and beyond to design and implement robust health and safety measures.

For the first time ever, visitors were able to purchase tickets for specific timeslots online. The reservation system helped manage visitor flow for a safer, more enjoyable experience for everyone.

In addition, the team worked to expand the Alpine Lounge space, doubling its footprint and allowing extra space for physical distancing between guests while they eat and drink.

The Vancouver Christmas Market also introduced more take-home pre-packaged food options in its Gourmetstrasse – an entire aisle of shops dedicated to gourmet foods from around the world.

See You Next Year!

The Vancouver Convention Centre is proud to be the venue of choice for the Vancouver Christmas Market. The event’s mission to spread holiday cheer, generate community benefits and spotlight local artisan businesses makes a tremendous difference in our community, especially during these difficult times. We look forward to welcoming them back for the 2022 holiday season.
